1. The term “pure play” is “a company that focuses exclusively on a particular product or service in order to obtain a large market share” (Dictionaries, 2017) The business model of eBay is that of e-commerce, unfortunally this is a large model but the way to which eBay has set itself up, it is in a basic form is an open online market place (eBay, 1996-2017) eBay is so successful because it is very easy and basic to use and it has marketed itself very well because a lot of people that have had a good experience use words of mouth

Places like amazon have entered a market with a huge online player and is very small in comparison unfortunally with far less success in comparison but they are still offering auctions just like eBay currently is. It is tough to say to why eBay has been able to keep this dominant position, one way might be that it is very easy to buy and sell things and it does have a good overall review of the sellers on the site
3. What eBay has done to minimise fraud on its site is have a seller review system which tells buyers if they are buying from reputable buyers, restrict payment options by now only having PayPal and credit card purchases and a money back policy on select items. The types of fraud would be financial fraud and not giving the right product once the purchase has gone through, the people that are most susceptible to fraud purchases are older people and people that think that deal is to good to be true
4. eBays efforts to set up a community among its users has had a lot of benefits because it makes the users feel better because it gives more control to the people using the site, what eBay gains from setting up themselves like this is that if it gives more control to its users more people will like that idea and would like to sell on it
5. a brand name might be setting up on eBay for a few reasons, one being that it has excess stock its trying to get rid of, this stock could be at the end of its line so eBay is used to get rid of the rest. Another reason is so that the brand name might be trying to enter this new market place of online auctions
